Heroes and villains. What story is complete without either one of them? Your hero needs someone to thwart, and your villain needs someone to destroy. It’s a match made in literary heaven.

There are things every writer should consider when planning a story’s hero and villain. Things that go beyond their hair and eye color. Their traits will play a big part of who they are. And how much the reader likes, or hates, them.

I am going to take a look at both of them, but for now, let’s think about the hero of your story.

What makes a great action hero? Is it the way he dresses? Or maybe the place he lives?

No, it’s the way he is!

How he talks, walks, and of course, handles those dangerous situations. That’s what makes a great hero.

There are things I look for in a hero when reading an action story.

1. A sense of humor is crucial for an action hero. I just love to hear a hero make a funny comment when things are at their most dire. Jokes break the tension a little and make the reader laugh, and love, the hero just a bit more.

2. A commitment to finish the job. A great action hero doesn’t quit, though he might have his moments of doubt at whether he can finish the job. Battered and bruised, he can’t lie down and quit. He has a job to do, and do it he must, even at great risk to himself.

3. Must be loyal to his family, his job, his beliefs, whatever is important to him. He can’t sell out to the bad guys, unless he is using that as a ploy to win. Even then, his loyalty is what will keep him on track, and get him through the tough times.

4. Ability to get the job done. He must have the skills necessary to solve the problem, save the girl and make the bad guy pay. His background needs to include his training. How did he learn to fight or operate a machine gun? Give your reader some insight into his training. Otherwise, when he does these things, you’ll leave your reader wondering how. Or why they should keep reading.

5. A rugged good looks, though not essential, does make me smile. Okay, I’ll admit it; I like to read about a good looking hero saving the day! He doesn’t have to be a drop dead, romance novel cover looker, but he should at least be handsome. And if he’s rugged looking too, that’s a plus in my book.

That’s the kind of hero I look for when I am reading a good action tale. The kind of hero I would want to rescue me, or keep me safe, from harm.

Now, on to the villains.

Okay, I am going to make a confession. I’ve always had a thing for Darth Vader. That voice sends shivers down my spine. He’s bad for the sake of being bad. He is a great evil villain.

No action story is complete without an awesome villain for the hero or heroine to thwart. But what makes a great villain? There are things I feel are important when planning your villain, so your reader’s will want him to be stopped at all costs.

1. He’s got to be bad: He’s got to be down right awful. Make him as mean as you want. Make him the kind of person who wouldn’t think twice about wiping out an entire city over afternoon tea.

2. He’s got to have a hatred of the hero. This can be a past issue, or something more recent, but he must hate the hero with a passion. What good is a villain if he isn’t trying to do the hero in? His main goal, besides world domination, should be the offing of the hero.

3. He’s got to have a decent army of minions. He needs enough people to put his evil plans into action. Any good evil villain will tell you, without the support of your minions, you’d have to set all those explosive charges and push all those buttons.

4. He’s got to have some kind of soft side. Hatred can only sustain someone for so long. Even if it’s just having a pet, or a fondness for pretty paintings. There are two sides to every person, and there should be two sides to your villain.

5. He’s got to have a great evil plan. What good is being an evil villain, or having an army of minions, if you have a lousy plan to take over the world? Come on, you know deep down you want him to win.

6. He’s got to have a great escape route. When the chips are down, your villain should be ready to flee the scene, leaving his minions to face the wrath of the hero…and the army the hero brings with him to thwart the evil plot.

7. He’s got to have a great death scene. Unless you plan on bringing him back for the sequel, you want his death to be as spectacular as his life. Let him go out with a BANG.

There are literally dozens, if not hundreds, of World War Two games out there. So when I say that there is another WWII Real-Time Strategy game out, you may be turned off instantly. But, Company of Heroes is certainly no typical WWII RTS. Taking place in Normandy soon after D-Day, Company of Heroes puts you in command of Able Company in the fight against Germany. Coupled with an expansion, Company of Heroes: Opposing Fronts , you can also take control of the British 2nd Army or German Panzer Elite. The Gold Edition grabs you both for one price. The game combines constant action, wonderful graphics, and unbelievable historical accuracy which makes it one of the best in its class.

If you loved the movie Saving Private Ryan , and thought Call of Duty was a great first-person shooter companion, then imagine the idea transformed into the Real-Time Strategy genre. Enter Company of Heroes: Gold . You take charge of a company of troops, tanks, and emplacements in order to defeat your enemy. Gathering resources (manpower, ammo, and fuel) involves capturing strategic points throughout the battlefield. Each faction is highly unique, and offers three different company commander options to further increase diversity. Each company commander allows you to “research” upgrades for your troops, as well as specialized units and artillery and air support. Starting with a Headquarters, which produce construction units, you can build several different structures (or, in the case of the British, different Command Trucks) which open up new technologies and units for production. Each unit is displayed extremely realistically, with army specific weapons and weapon upgrades. Infantry squads are controlled as a single unit, and are very intelligent AI-wise. They use cover to avoid fire, and without cover are suppressed and pinned by heavy fire. Engineers allow construction of field defenses like sandbags, barbed wire, trenches, and machine gun posts. Tanks are armored behemoths, towering over infantry with massive firepower, but with armor depicted realistically, are vulnerable to rear attacks. Soon, you will find yourself unconsciously flanking enemy machine guns with infantry and anti-tank emplacements with armor to get a better shot.

With a heavy-duty gaming computer, visuals are beautiful. Bullets kick up dirt, tanks can bounce enemy rounds with their frontal armor, and artillery looks frightfully devastating. By zooming in on units, you can easily make out individual weapons and markings on vehicles. Also, the entire map is destructible. If you order artillery on enemy infantry hidden in houses, each shell that hits will knock off the part of the building it hits, eventually leveling the structure. Tanks turning on city streets will occasionally knock off the corners of nearby buildings, and walls are no barrier. With each distinct explosion leaving a mark on the landscape, it really looks as though a war has been fought.

Company of Heroes: Gold Edition delivers three separate campaigns, each with a very respectable length. You can lead Able Company, US Army from D-Day until the closing of the Falaise Gap. Choosing the British 2nd Army gives you command of the very distinct British forces in the drive on Caen. Finally, the Panzer Elite campaign places you in command of German forces trying to stop the Operation Market Garden airborne invasions. When done with the campaigns (which will take many hours to complete), there are several dozen instant-action maps to choose from. If you choose online play, there is a very active community. Another faction, the regular German Army, is available in instant-action and multiplayer games, with its own units and company command trees. My only personal grief was multiplayer connection problems, which are not isolated, but not common either.

Company of Heroes is probably the best WWII Real-Time Strategy game available. Between building your base, capturing points, and making decisions in combat (tactical decisions are very important as opposed to most RTS’s), even vet players will have their hands full. With such wonderful graphics and realistic gameplay, it can be difficult to stop playing. Such diversity, with four armies and three company commanders each, along with many varied maps and missions, make Company of Heroes: Gold Edition an excellent addition to the genre, and proves that all WWII games are not created equal.

Providing support to the troops indicate the meaning that you are bringing them at home lively. Therefore you are not permitting any victims within the name of a morally wrong, prohibited and unfair war. Most of the public put their opinion and will agree to that a military is essential for the nationwide safety of a country.

The bracelet which has been designed for Military support and awareness is made of silicone rubber, stardust bead, citrine stones and gold-filled beads etc. This awareness and supportive bands is helpful in reducing stress and they are able stable the emotions. These bands help to solve the problem and chase away your anger. Conversely, value for the citizen either men and women who prefer to join and supporting to have a military is different from the giving favor of one country which take up a foreign land like same case in between Canada & Afghanistan or the United States & Iraq. Even all these proceedings are not essentially the mistake of the military; it is the blunder of the government that issues the instructions for the troops to go into all these areas.

The reason of joining military is not an easy task. Canada’s participation in the battle in Afghanistan has become a major concern and generated a phrase “Support the Troops”. Most of the people are supporting Troops by putting silicone wristbands on their wrist. Some people are ting yellow ribbon on their vehicles etc. These all activities look like working class operation to support the troops but in fact they are the plan of the government.

Awareness or support bands that include the yellow color help in many different kinds of awareness reason such as: Liver Disease, Military and Troop support, Suicide alertness, POW/MIA alertness and Bladder Cancer. This slogan refers to every country’s military forces. Often used in United States and Canada during any conflicts like Gulf war and Iraq

“Support our troops” wristbands are a grand mode to prove your support for US Troops who are fighting out of the country. When the employed person is killed or injured most of the military family’s facade monetary troubles. This is our responsibility to show our nationalism when militants are fighting in a foreign country for our independence. You can show your support by putting on “Support our troops” bracelet.

By wearing this band you are contributing your part to create awareness for the scarification made by troops and their families. Militants are continuously keeping themselves in trouble. They are taking risk on the name of freedom while war or through peace. You have to illustrate them that you value their effort by wearing wristbands.

Camouflages are pretending using 3 colors giving camouflages affect which help to support our troops. Camouflage wristbands are very fashionable with the equipped forces. To support armed forces and Canadian patriotism, Red color is being used. U.S. patriotism characterized by red, blue, white color. Yellow color represents your promise to not at all forget our heroes and soldiers. This yellow color bracelet became famous in the period of Gulf war in 1990.

Army museums are an important part of any country’s heritage, yet how many people have visited one? Unless you have immediate connections to the army, you may not even consider it. However, there are many reasons why you should consider visiting a British army museum.

A visit to the museum will help broaden your knowledge of the British army campaigns of the past – the successes and failures – the heroes and leaders. You can find inspiration in the stories of selflessness and feel sadness at the losses of life. It can be educational for young and old alike.

See examples of uniforms and weapons, look at the photographs and trench art, and read the moving accounts of life at war.

Children can see history come to life better than they can in a classroom, and those who have lived through a war can reminisce and learn more.

Army museums are usually geared up to make your visit as interesting and enjoyable as possible. You may find that there are maps, a restaurant, café or snack facility, and disabled access. There is often a shop too where you can buy a souvenir of your day.

On a more personal note, a military museum can help with family research and military genealogy. If you know an individual’s regiment or corps museum you can find out how your ancestor would have lived and fought and maybe even find mention of them in the records and personal effects held by the museum such as war diaries. The staff are generally very friendly and helpful and can assist you with your research.

Army museums can be free or chargeable, but you may find that there are concessions for serving army members, students or frequent visitors. Perhaps you can sign up as a friend and help support the heritage of the British army.

You may also find that the museum puts on special events such as workshops that may be of interest to you. Signing up to a newsletter can keep you informed of everything that your favourite army museums are doing.

There are 136 military museums to be discovered in the UK, all of which are worth a visit if you are interested in the British army or British history.

It is no longer necessary for you to deal with all of the problems associated with building a fire in your existing masonry fireplace. Gone are the days when you had to split wood, stack it, retrieve it, bring it into your home and then attempt to get a roaring fire going. Now you have the advantage of selecting one of the beautiful fireplace inserts that are so readily available. Inserts come in a variety of styles including wood burning, pellet, gas and electric. All you have to do is decide which one would work the most efficiently in your home.

There is nothing quite as appealing as a fire crackling away in your fireplace on a cold, blustery evening. It does wonders to warm your spirit and calm your soul. Having a wood fire blazing in your standard fireplace is beautiful but you do loose quite a bit of heat. Fireplaces, for the most part, are not the most efficient way to get some extra heat circulating throughout your home. They tend to pull heat into them and send it out the chimney. This is especially true when it is extremely cold outside, especially when temperatures drop below freezing.

So, what can you do to make your home more energy efficient? One of the best things you can do is to install an insert into your existing fireplace. This innovative device is enclosed inside of a fireproof steel or cast iron box that has a glass front. In a nutshell, this creates a combustion system that is then used to heat your home. You can buy some inserts that have blowers that send hot air into your home via a venting system. Of course, inserts are meant to supplement your existing heating system and won’t heat your entire home as well as your furnace or other heating system.

Ever since man realized that there was power, money and religion, there has been war. From the earliest times until today, countries have fought over land, power and myth with their soldiers at the frontier. The same is true of modern-day America and the thousands of soldiers who have died in action or are still fighting in Afghanistan. These soldiers leave their families, jobs and all other securities behind to protect their country. Does this make them the ultimate real American hero?

First, we must answer the question of what a hero truly is, since it’s being overused in modern times. Hopefully we can agree that a hero, a true American hero, is someone who fights for what he believes in and protect those he loves; someone who wants to make the world a better place.

While we can’t pick every American soldier’s head for reasons he enlisted and is now fighting in a deadly war, many families and friends believe these soldiers are doing it for the reasons listed above – to protect their loved ones, their country and their pride. Many people on the web seem to agree. When you search for thanksgivings to the American Army thousands of blogs, messages and websites pop up. Most of them call the soldiers of today American heroes.

There are Facebook pages spurring American troops on and online charities that help by sending food, medicinal provisions and clothing to war. But it’s not a universal truth. More than one blogger has asked the question of whether it’s a good thing to call soldiers heroes – to make war a heroic act. The reason many ask this is because so much of what war is seems to be forgotten in the process of calling the soldiers American heroes. The facts of death, bloodshed, unfairness, tyranny and the suffering of the innocent goes to waste with this romanticizing of war and those partaking in it. Whatever the case may be there are certainly a lot of real American heroes among the troops out there. Soldiers die for lots of reasons. They die to save a friend; they die to save an innocent stranger, they die when they refusing to give out information that might endanger their country. They die in battle to protect all they love.

One month later, fans of the show can head to their local comic book store to pick up the “Heroes” hardcover comic book collection published by DC Comics.

This stunning hardcover collects the amazing online comics based on the smash-hit, Emmy Award-nominated NBC show HEROES! This volume, featuring two amazing covers by comics legends Jim Lee and Alex Ross, also includes an introduction by Masi Oka (Hiro), all 34 chapters of Season One, (which originally appeared on the “Heroes” website), and Tim Sale’s artwork as seen on the show. The comics included have been written and illustrated by some of comics’ and television’s top writers and artists, including Michael Turner, Phil Jimenez, Marcus To, and more!

“The demand for ‘Heroes’ comic books has been huge,” states Marc Bowker, owner of Alter Ego Comics in Lima, Ohio. “We’ve had people coming into the store since the very first episode aired asking for these things.” Bowker added, “hopefully, the ‘Heroes’ hardcover will pave the way for new, printed comic books based on the TV show.”

It’s no surprise to comic book fans that “Heroes” is coming to comic book stores, and that it’s been such a huge hit. One of the show’s producers is Jeph Loeb, a veteran comic book writer best known for writing top notch Superman and Batman comic books. Loeb’s frequent collaborator, artist Tim Sale, did all of the artwork seen on the show’s first season. Another tip of the hat to the show’s comic book roots was the guest appearance of Marvel Comics’ Chairman Emeritus, Stan Lee, as a bus driver in one episode.

NBC online television is dedicated to give the viewers a taste of some of the most loved shows on the NBC network to be seen online. Just connect to the internet and you will get the most desired and the most popular TV shows ever to hit NBC. One of the most well known shows that you can see from here is the Heroes TV series. Domains like these are very useful to casual viewers. They have set options for watching the episodes either on a full screen or half screen making it a viewer friendly system. Do you remember the comedy series entitled The 30 rock? It is also available on NBC. Therefore, if you want more comedies then this is one of the best internet hot spots that you can find. Why complain when the excitement is already here? It is just as simple as connecting cable wires and clicking a single button for activation then there you have it.

Like other domains offering television on the internet, the online version of NBC has lots of benefits too. One is that it is a lot faster to use. It also has commercials, which tend to advertise on various products. If you have a teenager in your house then this is the right channel for him or her. However, this online channel is also suitable for any viewers both the young and the old. All the media content are centralized in one channel – NBC. So why then put a sad face on this earth when the internet is making it almost perfect for the world to be a better place to live in? You should now start watching NBC online television and put a smile on your face.

NBC (National Broadcasting Company) is one of the world leading broadcasting companies that broadcast many interesting programs such as TV shows, sport events, soap opera, reality shows and more. You can now watch NBC online on your PC or Laptop, which is the easiest way to enjoy the show when you are not in front of the television. Although it is not as enjoyable as watching NBC on your television set but it is worthwhile in case you are out of country, where you cannot watch NBC on the TV. It won’t be a problem if you have internet connection and simple software in your laptop. The idea, watch NBC online, does solve many problems. In fact there are many circumstances that can stop you watching your favorite channels beside of NBC; you could be in the office or any reasons.

There could be a time when you missed your favorite, which is as well the most popular TV show, like Heroes or you missed your favorite Football team in action as National Football Leagues continue to roll on weekend. That could lead to a very bad day. But NBC allows you to recall what you missed on demand for $0.99, which is a good news.

Yet there is another solution, which I came across lately and is not new anymore. A PC Satellite TV Software allows you to watch NBC online live or on demand for only less than $ 50 and even better is the payment is only once for lifetime access.

You will not only have the access to NBC, instead you are granted the access other channels worldwide. PC Satellite TV software provides you the access to more than 3000 channels and 1500 radio stations.

Since then, there is no reason to miss any of my favorite TV shows or any sport events. Internet has made life easier, you do not have to rush driving home because you want to catch your favorite TV show, you do not have to worry that you will miss Heroes on Monday, Bionic Woman on Wednesday, or NFL events, don’t worry, you can watch them on demand anytime you want.

There are benefits of having PC satellite TV software, which is very popular now:

Avoid paying monthly free subscription for cable TV, this software is one time payment only for lifetime access

Tons of TV channels and radio station

Allow you to watch live and on demand

No any additional hardware requirement, only a software needed

This is legitimate

When you consider the benefits, you could have decided which one is the best for you. There is one important thing you must have in order to watch NBC online or to access this software, which is a reliable internet connection. I believe in this era the speed of internet connection is very fast so it should not be a problem.
